The Muse

This story actually began in the early 1700..
At that time, one of the most prominent figures in Ottoman miniature art; Levnî, transformed the traditional miniature style into a new dimension through a profound change. Levnî's artistic revolution was shaped by his influence from Western paintings; adding dimension and depth to his miniatures, as well as giving the characters emotion and expression.

The flower drawing that Levnî used as his signature in his works.
One of the first examples of this innovative style was the portrait of DÂDERBÂNU, he painted in his distinctive manner. At this point, Levnî not only introduced innovations in his art but also took a bold step that challenged the social and artistic norms of his time. During that era, it was rare for a woman from the common people to have her portrait painted by a prominent artist, let alone to have her name explicitly included in the artwork.

This act represented not just an artistic revolution but also a challenge to the social structure of the time, highlighting Levni's visionary perspective and progressive approach. Levni's works expanded the boundaries of traditional miniature art, inspiring not only the artists of his time but also generations to come.
